Dan is one of a long string of comedians and actors to come from Canada in the 70’s and 80’s. He started acting in his high school years, although his college major was actually Criminology and Sociology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He is best known for his time on Saturday Night Live and his roles in Ghostbusters and The Blues Brothers.

Aykroyd has avid interests in the paranormal, blues music, and criminology. These interests are reflected strongly in his big-screen acting roles, such as Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers, Spies Like Us, Dragnet, Ghostbusters II and Driving Miss Daisy. Although Ayrkoyd is semi-retired from acting, he does occasionally accept small parts in big-budget films such as Pearl Harbor and 50 First Dates. He currently lives in Canada, where he sells the Dan Ayrkoyd Discovery Series, his own brand of wine. He is also a spokesman and distributor for Patron Tequila, as well as part owner of the House of Blues restaurant/concert venue chain.
