The instruction manual say they are to hide the "screw bosses" if one wants. Is that really necessary? Did the pke meter in the movie not have screw bosses or something?

They used electrical tape in the movie.

The black electrical tape was added many years after filming by the current owners to hold the screws in the now stripped out holes. So in effect Mattel copied an inaccurate detail as a fact.

Some good solid info there about covering those screws... its funny how information can become misunderstood and extra work is put in for inaccurate details.. haha
